
PAPER CUTTING CLASS

This course will give you the skills and knowledge to start creating art and illustration in paper. Whether you are a complete beginner or have had experience in working with a craft knife, this course will give you the confidence to perfect this art form. You will start by mastering how to create a silhouette based design. Sarah will then introduce collage based techniques, adding colour and texture. You will Learn how layering paper can create depth and dimension to your paper artwork.
Sarah Dennis is a Bristol-based paper artist and illustrator whose work combines traditional paper cutting techniques with collage. Sarah has illustrated and authored a selection of books, including Papercut Wilderness and Paper Plants published by Carlton Books. Paper cutting is creative and therapeutic, focusing the mind and steadying the hand while bringing about a serene sense of achievement. With a passion for sharing her craft, Sarah teaches workshops throughout the UK and loves to see others find the same level of joy in paper cutting as she does.
In a workshop you will be taught the fundamental techniques of paper cutting, learning how to use a craft knife, you will be advised on the variety of different papers that are perfect for this art. Sarah will provide you with a template, which will allow you to hone your skills, and immerse yourself in cutting and removing shapes to reveal an intricate design that you can take home. Sarah encourages intermediates to practice designing their own papercut and will guide you through the design process revealing how layers can be used to create depth and how positive and negative space can be used to enhance the artwork.
